Pre-Con 1: NAHQ/APIC: Hybrid CPHQ Exam Review Course

NAHQ’s instructor-led CPHQ Review Course connects you with expert instructors in an online classroom setting and is designed to support those planning to take the Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality® (CPHQ) Certification Examination. Based on the current CPHQ content outline, this course provides a review of essential healthcare quality concepts and offers valuable tips on how to best prepare for the exam. 
This exam review course, which will consist of both in-person (at APIC24) and virtual sessions (hosted by NAHQ), includes interactive lectures, quizzing, live Q&A, and inter-session activities, all focused on building your knowledge of the CPHQ content areas and helping you get ready for the exam. Registrants will receive a $100 discount on the CPHQ exam fee.

Pre-Con 2: Infection Prevention Survey Readiness

Few things cause more stress for an Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) leader than preparing for planned and/or unplanned regulatory survey events. This interactive workshop will shed light on the continuous survey readiness process, including: 


Attendees will be able to share their areas of concern in a collegial environment and reflect on effective strategies with diverse experts. This program will be of interest to Infection Preventionists from across the continuum of care, including acute care, long-term care, and ambulatory settings, a growing area of vulnerability for many organizations. This workshop will also benefit surveyors who want to deepen their understanding of contemporary infection prevention challenges.  
 
Learning Objectives: 
At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to: 
  1. Describe current and emerging trends related to Infection Prevention affecting the surveying process.  
  2. Learn communication strategies to use with surveyors during and after a visit. 
  3. Describe how to create a successful manufacturer’s instructions for use (MIFU) risk assessment.  
 
 

Pre-Con 3: Sterile Processing Standards Update: What IPs Need to Know

This workshop will provide infection prevention professionals with a comprehensive understanding of what they need to know about key AAMI standards and other technical documents for sterile processing in healthcare facilities, from the infection prevention perspective. The workshop will cover implications of the main requirements and recommendations in the documents for facilities that choose to conform with ANSI/AAMI ST79:2017 and the four amendments published in 2020 (steam sterilization and sterility assurance), ANSI/AAMI ST91 (endoscope processing), ANSI/AAMI ST108 (water quality), and AAMI TIR99 (ultrasound probe and dilator processing). The workshop will also provide a glimpse into soon-to-be-released new or revised AAMI standards and technical documents to help IPs prepare for upcoming new or substantively changed guidance. Through interactive sessions and application-focused discussions, participants will gain the knowledge necessary to understand how to conform to these standards to enhance patient safety in their respective healthcare settings.

Learning Objectives: 
At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to: 
 
  1. Understand what voluntary consensus standards and other technical documents are, how they’re developed, the benefits to implementing standards, and how to interpret the language to identify requirements, recommendations, and informational content for application in healthcare facilities that choose to conform with the standards. 
  2. Learn about infection prevention implications relative to the key requirements and recommendations provided in a number of important standards and technical documents for healthcare facilities, including ANSI/AAMI ST79 and its amendments, ANSI/AAMI ST91, ANSI/AAMI ST108, and AAMI TIR99. 
  3. Understand how standards relate to manufacturer's instructions for use and facility policy, and how to address situations not specifically covered in the guidance.  
  4. Explore forthcoming new or revised standards and technical documents and the infection prevention perspective on their potential impact on health care facilities. 
  5. Through discussion of real-life scenarios and sharing of best practices, be able to apply knowledge gained from the workshop relative to putting AAMI sterile processing standards to work in their respective healthcare facilities.  


Pre-Con 4: Microsoft Excel for the Infection Preventionist

You can do almost anything with Microsoft Excel, especially when it comes to data. In this half-day session, Steve Kraynak (SumProduct.com), who spent 12 years as an Excel product manager at Microsoft, will show you how to gather, organize, and present your data with the wide array of features available in Excel. You'll learn helpful tips that make Excel easier to use. Learn best practices for getting your data into Excel and then analyzing and summarizing it with PivotTables. Understand how to get the most out of the powerful dynamic array functions. Highlight the minimum, maximum, or outlier values in your charts. Each attendee will receive their own paperback copy of Guerrilla Data Analysis Using Microsoft Excel, by Excel MVPs Oz Du Soleil and Bill Jelen, as well as the set of example files used in the session so you can follow along or practice afterward. 
Format: Attendees are welcome to bring their laptops to follow along with some of the examples in the presentation, but it's not required. Feel free to learn and ask questions along the way to get the most out of the session. 

Learning Objectives: 
At the end of this workshop, the participant will be able to:  
  1. Learn how to easily summarize your data with PivotTables 
  2. Import and combine data from raw data files into Excel in easy, flexible, and repeatable ways (Power Query). 
  3. Learn straightforward techniques for highlighting minimum, maximum, or outlier values in your charts. 
  4. How to make sure that Excel doesn't change your data unexpectedly 
  5. Understand the dynamic array behavior and related functions in the modern version of Excel.
