Valerie Ausborn, MPH, CIC is the Regional Manager of Infection Prevention at Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center, based in Houston, Texas. Valerie received her BA from the University of Iowa and MPH in Epidemiology & Biostatistics from Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health. She is certified in infection prevention and control (CIC) and is an active member of her local APIC chapter in Houston, TX.
Valerie worked in quantitative research prior to infection prevention. She has infection prevention experience in both pediatric and adult populations, as well as experience specific to orthopedic surgery. Valerie had the opportunity to speak at APIC 2022, presenting the implementation of a bedside procedure audit tool specific to pediatric cardiovascular patients and presented APIC Webinars focused on pediatric patient management and IP program training. Valerie and Memorial Hermann IP leadership were recipients of the 2023 APIC Heroes of Infection Prevention Award. She values teamwork and believes the integration of infection preventionists into process improvement strategies is essential to reduce hospital acquired infections, and ultimately improve quality and patient safety.
