Infection Preventionist

Laike Abebe, MPH, CIC is an Infection Preventionist at Tampa General Hospital (TGH) and has been in the department almost 5 years. Before joining the Infection Prevention team at TGH, Laike worked at the Pasco County Health Department for 3 years as an epidemiologist and data analyst. Laike also has previous epidemiologic and data analysis experience from his internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Laike received his Master’s in Public Health from Florida A&M University in 2012 with a concentration in Epidemiology. He received his Certification in Infection Control (CIC) in 2021 and is certified through 2026. Laike worked with the TGH Prevention Response Outreach (TPRO) program during the COVID-19 pandemic, helping local businesses and the Tampa Bay community follow best practices regarding COVID-19 prevention. He spoke about his consulting experiences at APIC 2022 with his director, Kim Atrubin, during a presentation titled: "We’re in This Together: Infection Prevention Consulting and the Community". Laike is also an active member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and is currently Secretary for his local APIC chapter. In his free time, Laike is an avid poker player and enjoys spending time with his adorable dog Siggi.
