Lisa Sturm, MPH, CIC, FAPIC, Sr. Director Infection Prevention, Ascension, has been in the field of Infection Prevention for over 30 years. Prior to working in IP, she was a nuclear medicine technologist, but her passion has always been for The Germ Theory.
Over the years Lisa has worked in various capacities of infection prevention in academic and community hospital settings, and most recently in a system role as Senior Director of Infection Prevention at Ascension. Ascension is the largest non-profit health system in the United States, with over 140 hospitals and 2500 sites of care in 21 states. Lisa was previously the Chair of National APIC’s Public Policy Committee and the Chapter Legislative Representative (CLR) for the APIC Great Lakes Chapter. Prior to that Lisa served her chapter in various other board roles over the years. Currently she is an APIC Board Member. She is published in numerous peer reviewed journals, is the author of book chapters on infection prevention, and has presented internationally on infection prevention. Her most recent research is centered around the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on HAIs and has recent publications in Infection Control & Epidemiology (ICHE), American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC) and Antimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology (ASHE).
Lisa loves working in infection prevention and thinks it is one of the most important and rewarding jobs in healthcare today.
