Julie Britton, DNP, MSN, RN-BC, GCNS-BC, FGNLA, has spent the last 35 years
working in post-acute and long-term care settings. She began her career as a licensed
practical nurse and returned to school to obtain her associate degree in nursing from
Louisiana State University. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from
Temple University and obtained her master’s degree and doctor of nursing practice
from Gwynedd Mercy University, where she was awarded the Nurse Excellence
Award from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma). In
2011, Julie Britton was one of 14 nurses selected nationwide to participate and complete the
Sigma Theta Tau Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy Fellowship program. She is
board certified as a clinical nurse specialist in gerontology, is a fellow of the Geriatric
Nurse Leadership Academy, and is certified as a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma. Britton
is Chair of the National Nurse Executive Council and is active in AHCA, where she
serves on the Regulatory/Survey Committee. She also serves as an advisor for Mov-
ing Forward Nursing Home Quality Coalition and the National Senior Care Advi-
sory Board. Julie Britton is currently active in AONE, ANA, AADNS, NADONA, PADONA,
Sigma, NJHCA, DNPA and PSNA. Her career path has been built on serving others in
the delivery of care of the older adult, families, and communities to support healthy
aging, maximum functioning, and quality of life. She promotes shared governance
and believes in involving those at the front line/end users in shared decision-making.
