Donna Spangler RN, MPH, CIC, LTC-CIP, is a seasoned registered nurse and board certified infection preventionist that has spent 38 years working in Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF). She is currently serving as the Director of Infection Prevention for Southern Health Care Management LLC. The most challenging but rewarding positions during her career included Director of Nursing in long-term care, and Regional Clinical Director. Infection prevention in long term care has been a passion throughout her career and she was honored to volunteer for APIC to assist in item writing for both the new LTC-CIP, and the CIC learning systems to prepare candidates for certification.
On a personal level, both of her siblings were insulin dependent diabetics requiring hemodialysis and developed multiple healthcare associated infections. These more personal battles with HAIs developed into a passion for infection prevention and her personal mantra, “The World needs an army of Infection Preventionists.”
