Water Quality Issues and Solutions: A Review of On-site Cases

Session Description: The need for a robust water management plan is essential for the operation of healthcare buildings. In recent years, organizations and agencies have continued to develop more specific guidelines and standards related to healthcare water management. Once a water management program has been established, it is equally important to carry out the required testing and sampling outlined in the plan. As expected, upon investigating a building’s water system, issues are likely to be discovered. This presentation will highlight water quality problems that our team has discovered in the field and the multidisciplinary responses that are often required to solve the issues. Typically, problems are discovered via routine temperature and disinfectant testing of the building’s hot and cold water supplies. Emergent situations such as water main breaks, may also be the cause for action. We will discuss the importance of a timely, planned response to unique circumstances to ensure patient health and safety is maintained.
