Session Description: This workshop will provide a concise overview of the primary and secondary bloodstream infection (BSI) definitions. An interactive workshop will follow the review of essential key concepts and include BSI case studies that build on the following topics: central line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI), central line associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) exclusions, mucosal barrier injury laboratory confirmed bloodstream infection (MBI-LCBI) criterion, laboratory confirmed bloodstream infection criterion 2 (LCBI 2) specimen eligibility, endocarditis, intraabdominal infections, gastrointestinal infections and capturing non-matching organisms in the secondary bloodstream infection attribution period (SBAP). Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and discover the hidden gems of BSI surveillance using knowledge checks.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of both primary and secondary bloodstream infection (BSI) definitions.
  • Develop problem-solving skills related to BSI surveillance.
  • Discover and address challenges, share insights, and collectively uncover the intricacies of BSI surveillance that may not be immediately apparent.
