Director, Infection Prevention and Control at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and honoree of United Hospital Fund Excellence in Health Care Award for reducing hospital-acquired infection rates and tackling the multi-drug resistant, hard to identify, and often deadly threat of Candida Auris.
Born and raised on Union Island, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Alexander obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biology/Chemistry at Hunter College. Kinta received a Master of Public Health in Community Education from East Stroudsburg University and a second Master in Medical Microbiology from Long Island University while attending New York Medical College. At NY Medical College, she earned a Doctorate of Public Health in Health Policy and Management.
Dr. Alexander is committed to leadership development and, she mentors’ students who are part of the Bridges, CSTEP, and Crossroads faculty-mentored research program. Provide speaker in engagements and facilitator for four Real women International leadership Academy4 Women: LEAD, Queens College Women Empowerment Forum and participate in alumni career panel annually.
Her dedicated groundbreaking work in Infection Prevention and Control led her to be featured in the New York Times. She developed and implemented a protocol to prevent and control the transmission of C. Auris. This protocol was adapted by the entire Mount Sinai Health System, where she worked before joining the City’s public health system. Also, The New York State Department 0f Health also used this protocol as a Guide for hospitals throughout New York State.
Dr. Alexander is an adjunct Professor – Long Island University, MPH program, Kingsborough Community College- the City University of New York, Department of Biological services and has presented and published numerous evidence-based research and protocols.
