Executive Director of Infection Prevention & Control

Rachel Marrs is the Executive Director of Infection Prevention & Control for the UCM Health System. Rachel has extensive infection prevention experience and first joined UCM as an Infection Control Practitioner in 2010. Rachel has been leading the program as a Director since 2018. Prior to this, Rachel had an extended career as a surgical nurse at Loyola University Medical Center. Rachel received her MSN with specialization in Population-Based Infection Control & Environmental Safety and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Loyola University.
During her tenure at UCM, Rachel has been an incredibly collaborative leader, partnering with clinical care teams to reduce surgical site infections, improve compliance with our nationally renowned hand hygiene program, and reduce rates of infection around central line placement and urinary tract catheters. Rachel’s content knowledge and expertise was instrumental during the Ebola outbreak response in FY16 and Covid-19 Response. In addition to the occasional national crisis, Rachel leads the team on a regular basis investigating potential outbreaks or infection control risks to our patients, forming strong relationships with our external partners at city and state agencies. Rachel has also been a key stakeholder in design and construction projects across campus helping to validate plans and construction site barriers implemented to keep our patients and staff safe.
