Session Description: Process Improvement tools should be in every Infection Preventionist’s arsenal. Process Improvement is a specialized field that utilizes various tools to strategically identify the root of the problem, highlight systematic issues (rather than people issues), implement change, and monitor for sustainment. This workshop will focus on the utilization of fishbone diagrams to complete thorough gap analyses as well as development of A3s to drive and guide process improvement work. During this session attendees will learn about A3s and fishbone diagrams using a multidisciplinary approach in a see one, do one, teach one fashion. Attendees are asked to bring their own real-life problem examples to work through as a group. At the end of the workshop participants will have completed a fishbone diagram as well as an A3 through the planning phase.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand and educate others on A3s and fishbone diagrams.
  • Develop a fishbone diagram with a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Compose a complete A3 on an Infection Prevention problem at their facility.
