Dr. April Baller is the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Lead at World Health Organization (WHO) Health Emergencies (WHE) Programme, Geneva, Switzerland. She holds an MBBCh, PG Certificate in Infection Control, MRCGP, Diploma in HIV Management, DTM&H, MPH, and an MBA. April has over 20 years of experience in medical and public health, including emergency medicine and communicable disease outbreak management. She was involved in the COVID-19 pandemic, Marburg outbreak in Equatorial Guinea, Ebola Virus Disease outbreaks in Uganda, DRC and West Africa, as well as management of Lassa & Dengue Fever. She previously worked in protracted humanitarian emergencies settings with NGOs including Médecins Sans Frontières in Sudan and Colombia. She has implementation research experience with Prevention of Mother-To-Child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV programs in Malawi, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. Prior to that April worked as a clinician in the UK, Australia, and South Africa and a medical expedition doctor.
