Session Description: Critical access hospital antimicrobial stewardship programs have unique needs and situations that are not commonly discussed in evidence-based literature. Infection preventionists working in this setting are often the primary driver of institutional antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and may require support from public health.

This session will share a critical access hospital's journey through antimicrobial stewardship and highlight opportunities for public health to support infection preventionists working in this capacity. Topics additionally discussed will include strategies to overcome common barriers and how tailoring these strategies, along with flexibility and open communication, can meet the needs of each unique hospital. This session welcomes infection preventionists, public health, and all other professionals who wish to learn more about how to support antimicrobial stewardship programs in this setting.
