Kristyn Hanzel, MSN, RN, a-IPC, CNOR is an Infection Preventionist at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, an acute care facility that is part of a larger healthcare system serving 12 communities across western South Dakota and neighboring areas. Kristyn began her career in 2015 as a Perioperative Registered Nurse and later transitioned to Surgical Services Nurse Manager before delving into the infection prevention field in December 2021. She achieved her a-IPC certification in January 2023 and is pursuing her CIC certification by the end of 2024. Kristyn's dedication to improving surgical practices and reducing post-operative complications drives her current projects where she focuses on the prevention of surgical site infections. Kristyn's professional philosophy revolves around enhancing healthcare quality and optimizing patient care through meticulous attention to infection prevention protocols and continuous improvement in perioperative nursing standards. Kristyn is a mother of two boys, two dogs, and two cats who keep her busy when she not at work.
