Melanie Curless is the Director for Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She has post-graduate degrees in pediatric nursing and public health and is certified in infection control. During her 10+ years in the field of infection prevention she has assessed, planned, and led infection prevention activities and performance improvement initiatives at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and as well as internationally. Melanie has worked with health departments, organizations, facilities and health professionals in a variety of global settings to increase capacity and prevent healthcare-associated infections. Her international work includes projects to improve hand hygiene and waste management in sub-Saharan Africa, prevent bloodstream infections in neonatal intensive care units in middle income settings and to develop and deliver infection prevention training on a variety of topics. Previously, she worked with the CDC Global Disease Detection Center in Egypt designing a multi-hospital healthcare-associated infection surveillance system and coordinating infection control research and training.
