Sonia Elizabeth Alvarez, MHA, CIC, M(ASCP), CPHQ, is an Infection Preventionist at Advent Health Tampa. She holds a Master's in Healthcare Administration and is Board Certified in Infection Prevention and Control and Healthcare Quality. She has 16 years of Infection Control experience. Sonia spent most of her career in a large teaching hospital. She also worked as a lone Infection Preventionist for two small community hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also had the opportunity to work as a quality improvement specialist for a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) helping healthcare facilities and nursing homes to improve their quality of healthcare services and data reporting to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). She has helped develop new process improvement strategies and tools that have helped reduce healthcare-associated infections and improve patient safety. Her goal is to continue disseminating best practices and inspiring individuals to build a strong sustainable approach that enhances a culture of safety for patients and staff.
Sonia served in the United States Navy Reserve from 2000 - 2008.
