Infection Prevention Nurse Consultant

Sydney Record, DNP-PHN, RN, CIC is currently an Infection Prevention Nurse Consultant with the Healthcare Associated Infection and Antimicrobial Resistance section at the Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH). She works with healthcare facilities to assess and provide recommendations for their infection prevention program in tandem with their needs and goals. Health equity is a top priority in all aspects of her work. In fact, she is champion for public health guidance written in everyday language that is easy for all audiences to understand. She focuses on educating people about the importance of prevention rather than reaction when she can. However, providing timely resources for folks in an outbreak is key to her public health practice as well. Prior to her work with WA DOH, she was the Director of Infection Prevention for a skilled nursing facility with a COVID unit, an ambulatory care nurse and an acute care medical surgical nurse. Sydney graduated with her Doctor of Nursing Practice in Population Health from the University of Washington School of Nursing (UW SoN) in 2019. Sydney feels passionate about educating future nurses in a responsible manner which is why she also works as a clinical instructor for Community Health Nursing Through Partnerships course at the UW SoN. Sydney is also very involved in the Health Equity work group in her WA DOH section. Outside of work, Sydney enjoys adventures with her family, powerlifting, and time with friends.
